Woven baskets made from carton seams

SIG carton seams | Folded windmill loop

I wasn’t sure if my local recycling facilities would accept the seams of the cartons as I read that some areas use machines to sort waste by shape recognition. The only other option was to throw them away – until I discovered you can weave them. So I have been saving them for a long time as a lot are needed to make even something small.

It’s quite tough to weave, but these are probably the strongest baskets I’ve made so far, with double thickness and a double rim. They can be used with one serving as a lid, or as nesting baskets.

Would you be interested in instructions for this project?

We are currently in the process of putting together instructions for some of our designs. We plan to ask for a small fee to fund the development of a ‘Loop Maker’ tool. In the meantime many of our designs are low tech and can be achieved using household tools and materials. If you would like to express interest in instructions for the above project, we’d be glad to hear from you!
